NED & PUBLIC ROLES

Juliet sits as a public interest member of two Scientific Advisory Committees providing independent advice to government on matters relating to public health: COC, the Committee on Carcinogenicity (under the DHSC), and SAG-CS, the Scientific Advisory Group on Chemical Safety (under the DBT). She sat for seven years on COT, the Committee on Toxicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment. Juliet’s role on these committees of expert scientists is to bring a broad public perspective

Juliet chaired fitness to practise tribunals for the Health & Care Professions Council (again until her maximum term ran out). HCPC regulates practitioners in 15 professions from physiotherapy to psychology. The aim of the tribunals is to keep the public safe, and uphold professional standards.

A JP for more than a decade, Juliet is well-versed in the sifting of evidence (written, visual and in-person), pertinent questioning, fairness, collective decision making and finding the best practical outcomes in sometimes less than ideal circumstances.

Juliet has held charity trusteeships, most recently with the Student Publication Association supporting student journalists (and those recently graduated) directly and through mentorship, awards schemes and conferences, including the annual national conference attended by 200-250 student journalists.

“Juliet’s interventions are always insightful and to the point. She makes an invaluable contribution to the work of the Committee.”
